Nursery Policy |
| We welcome your child to Salem's Nursery. We accommodate children from infancy through kindergarten at most church services and the Sunday School hour. In order to provide a safe, consistent and enjoyable nursery care, the following policies and guidelines will assist parents, grandparents, visitors, and nursery volunteers. | |
Adult-to-Child Ration To provide the best possible care, we wish to maintain a nursery ratio of one helper to every three children. Volunteers are scheduled in advance, but please be willing to stay and help if you are asked. Parents are expected to volunteer in the nursery. Mature teenagers 13 years and older are welcome as helpers, but an adult must always be present in the room. |
Sign In Please sign in your child at the nursery door. A volunteer wearing a name tag will take the child inside and make him/her comfortable. By keeping traffic inside the nursery to a minimum, we will decrease confusion and make it easier for the children to become settled. Mothers who wish to nurse their babies are always welcome inside the nursery. Please do not slip away from your child without telling him/her that you are going to Church/Sunday School and will be back soon. Then leave immediately, even if your child begins to cry. If your child continues to be upset, we will come for you. |
Pick-Up Please come for your child immediately at the close of the church activity. The child will be released to the parent by a volunteer at the door. This will lessen confusion which possibly could allow a child to wander away unsupervised. The nursery will release the child to a person other than a parent only upon receipt of written instructions from the parent. |
Sickness If your child is sick, he/she will be more comfortable at home. To protect the health and safety of all the children, we cannot accept a child who is sick with a runny nose with yellow or green discharge, fever, diarrhea, vomiting, a contagious rash, or any contagious disease. If your child becomes sick, we will notify you promptly. Please tell a volunteer of any health concerns that the child may have. |
Snacks The nursery will supply a simple snack of crackers or dry cereal. If your child has food allergies, or for some other reason cannot have a snack, please notify the volunteer when you sign-in. |
Labels Please label all of your child's personal belongings, including bottles, cups, pacifiers and diaper bags. |
Crib Linens The nursery will provide crib linens. Parents are responsible to take used linens home to be washed and returned the following week. In case of visitor's use, a volunteer will wash and return any linens used. |
Child Protection Policy Use of the nursery must always comply with our Salem Child Protection Policy. Full copies of this policy are available in the nursery, the Christian Education office and the church office. |

Comments If you have any suggestions or comments that may be of help to serve you and your child more effectively, or if you wish to serve as a volunteer, please contact the Nursery Coordinator or write a note and place it in the offering plate addressed to the Worship and Music Committee.
