The Anniversary Committee invites all Salem congregational members, past and present, to attend our Homecoming Festivities, on Saturday April 25th from 1 – 4 p.m. and on Sunday, April 26th.
Saturday’s events will include Open Houses and Tours of Salem Lutheran Church on Newburg Avenue and Historical Old Salem, at 701 Ingleside Avenue, our first place of worship in 1849, from 1 – 4 p.m. We will enjoy the music of Salem Brass throughout the afternoon and refreshments will be served at both locations. Come hear “The Brass” play and learn about the 160 year history of your church.
On Sunday, beginning at 1 p.m., our special weekend continues with a catered luncheon, by Royal Affairs. Please use the sheet on the foyer kiosk to sign up by Sunday, April 19th, as we must give an accurate count to our caterer that day. Appetizers will be served in the foyer following the 11 a.m. service; thereafter we’ll head to Bethany Hall for our buffet style luncheon. Members are asked to bring a non-perishable food item or two which will be donated to the Catonsville Emergency Food Ministries. Baskets will be set up in the front foyer. The program features a trivia contest, special music, and open mic for “Memories of Salem”.
Continuing on with our celebration, we’ll look forward to “Service through our Music” during the month of May. Music throughout our 160 years will be featured. Perhaps you have a special hymn that you would like to sing. Let Claire Graham, Committee Chair; or Pastor Ed or Pastor Dave know.
June features our Founder’s Day Events – mark Sunday, June 7th on your calendar now from 1 – 4 p.m. Re-enactors will be “camped out” at Old Salem; tours of the cemetery and of the church will highlight the day. Refreshments too. And of course, our annual worship service and picnic at the Park begins at 11 a.m. on Sunday, June 14th, following our 8:15 service at Salem Newburg.
Anyone wishing to work with Kathy Germeroth on our 4th of July float entry, should contact her soon. The theme for the parade is “Baltimore County Celebrating 350 Years”.
A vesper prayer service, led by Pastors Whetstone and Asendorf will be held on Sunday, August 16th at 6 p. m. at Old Salem. The community is invited.
Join us in our celebrations of God’s blessings to us as a congregation throughout these 160 years.
